I hope you enjoyed this horror movie video.
If you have any suggestions for future film reviews leave them in the comments.
Three Jake Gyllenhaal movies? This is why I love this channel. And you can't forget to mention the most relevant Jake G movie during this coronavirus/self isolation situation we're all in: Bubble Boy
Hahaha!
Dan Neumann that genuinely made me laugh.
Weird Horror: Piercing, Suspiria Remake, Mother!, Personal Shopper
Strong Female Lead: What Keeps You Alive
Stalker / Doppelgänger Movies: The Broken, Julias Eyes
Visually Appealing: The Color From Space, A Cure For Wellness, Revenge, Climax, Triangle
🤘
I loved Mother! A cure for wellness was too long and drawn out for me, I'm gonna watch some of the others you've listed here, except the suspiria remake! I love the original too much!
@@spookyastronauts 🥳
Finally someone who put "The Descent" at the top of their list. Now that's a "bad ass" move. This movie will seriously mess with your mind. I've been watching horror movies all my life and I've never seen something as spine chilling as Neil Marshall's masterpiece of claustrophobic underground horror. It starts innocently enough as a group of women go cave diving but it gradually "descends" into pure insanity. This one scared me even more than The Ring. It is chilling on multiple levels as the character development plunges into a heart of darkness even more profound than the horror. It is both emotionally and visually disturbing and some of the images in this move will stick in your head forever.
My fun+gory film recommendations:
* Guns Akimbo
* Ready or Not
* Braindead (Dead Alive)
* Hobo With a Shotgun
* Planet Terror
* Free Fire
Ready or Not is one of my all-time favourite "fun horror" movies. I keep looking for similar films, thanks for the list.
Night of the demons 😊
also recently, Psycho Goreman. I had soo much fun watching that movie.
Just watched 'Bliss' on your recommendation. Holy Moly, what a ride!
So Shudder dropped a movie called "Daniel Isn't Real" the other day. So trippy and has amazing cinematography (very similar with color saturation like Mandy). Great acting, interesting plot, and amazing practical effects (and decent gore factor). Definitely recommend...I know you guys don't have Shudder there, but hopefully you can find it on VOD.
By the way, just saw "Satanic Panic" was added to Shudder and have been dying to see it bc you have talked about it several times. Watching first thing in morning when I get home from work!
And great list, have several written down from it to search for!
Requiem For A Dream is uneasy watching but incredible still and Jennifer Connelly's best performance since Labyrinth, Thanks for doing another video like this Emma
Thanks for watching!
I recommend Mother! (2017), Cam (2018), Assassination Nation (2018), Inside (2007), The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014), The Strangers: Prey At Night (2018)
Tiffany Tiff Tiff Good list👍 Mother! & Inside are my all time favourite. I love Taking of Deborah Logan as well. It's one of the very underrated found footage horror movie for sure.
Requiem for a Dream is probably the best film I've ever seen that I never want to see again.
yayy, THE ENDLESS (and SPRING, and RESOLUTION).. so good.... REQUIEM FOR A DREAM made me bawl like a child back in the days... ELLEN BURSTYNs performance is heart breaking! the soundtrack is also f-ing amazing.. my cult horror recommendation for all you fellow quarantinees would be THE SACRAMENT.. thank you emma, highly appreciated...
When I heard you say the descent I literally gasped lol!! That is my absolute favorite horror movie ever!! I’ve seen it more times than I can count. Sara (and Juno) is the most badass female lead imo. I’m already claustrophobic so the whole being stuck in a cave miles underground is unnerving but what comes after that (I won’t spoil) is crazy insane. I remember actually being on the edge of my seat the first time I saw it. I always get so happy whenever someone mentions this movie. It’s a must see and not just for horror fans, just anyone looking for a movie that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.
Great and useful list. I love both Prisoners and Nocturnal Animals!
I work at a so-called essential business, so my day-to-day life hasn't been affected as much as many people by the corona issue. I still appreciate these videos making it easier on people who are stuck indoors.
Thanks! Yeah im still doing my day job, but I'm still home more often.
Stay safe!
@@CorbCorbin thanks. The place I work has big open ceilings and white spaces so it's a a bit easier to feel comfortable there than it would be if I was in some sort of relatively cramped office building.
Jasper Fen
Sounds like you have the right mindset for the situation. I have trouble seeing the positives, especially under such anxious circumstances, so your ahead of the game already. Keep on keeping on.
spookyastronauts
Is it really manic where you live in Australia? I’m in an area that has been very fortunate, with only 20 confirmed cases out of close to 180,000, so people have started chilling out a bit as far as overbuying or mobbing the trucks delivering meat. It looked like the beginning of a real dystopian horror movie outside of Walmart a few weeks ago.
Loved the recommendations, as I _nearly_ _always_ do. 😊
I LOVE Nocturnal Animals!!! Love 'The Endless'! and 'Charlie Says' was a great film on the Manson Era/Family (an interest of mine).' The Nightingale' is an amazing piece of cinema. Great film. I've been too scared to watch 'Funny Games' for years but would like to see it.
I rewatched this video to see your recommendations because seriously every movie you’ve liked, I’ve ended up loving. So the way you described “Boys In The Trees” got me super intrigued, so I watched it, and wow. Thank you for introducing me to that film.
It was really good and beautiful in a very sad way.. I even had the twist spoiled for me while I was looking up places to watch it and I STILL thoroughly enjoyed it knowing what was coming. I mean, not that I wouldn’t have already guessed it early on, like you said, it’s kind of predictable.
**Spoilers**
But movies like “The Sixth Sense” and “The Uninvited, (aka A Tale Of Two Sisters)” has taught me that if there’s a character people don’t talk to, don’t look at, or don’t even acknowledge their presence in any way… chances are, this character is a ghost that only the main character can see/hear/talk to. And there were blatant signs early on that this was the case. But either way. That ending broke my heart into a million pieces
I have another psycho stalker thriller recommendation for you. That movie is called The Paperboy (1994). It is about a twelve year old boy who becomes obsessed with a woman and her daughter. This movie is very disturbing, and is one of the lesser known killer kids films.
I remember seeing that once when I was younger I think. Do you remember if a body was found in a deep freezer in that film?
I love Prisoners! So underrated! Requiem for a Dream is a gem! The Endless and Martha Marcy May Marlene are fantastic as well! The Nightingale, Mandy, Inside...such great suggestions! Nocturnal Animals is outstanding!
Hausu and Mandy are both in my top four favorite films of all time. Incredible stuff.
The Vanishing (spoorloos) is an absolute masterpiece in my eyes. Amazing recommendation. People need to see it :)
“Let’s talk spooky stuff” plays in my head about 20 times a day. I’ll just be sitting there sometimes and I blurt that out.
Your recommendations are always welcome.
Thanks for your support Daniel!
I, for one, absolutely love Repo!
Ellen Burstyn. Requiem For A Dream. I bawled.
The Girl Next Door. I bawled too. But the real events are so much more disturbing and devastating.
Yeah its hard to even take in!
Bad Boy Bubby was a very interesting movie that starts out pretty messed up but then turns into a feel good movie, the dark comedy is on point in it and we get a happy ending and it is weird it has everything in it
Thanks so much for all of your recommendations. I’m currently watching Daddy’s Little Girl and I’m pretty sure I solved it in 20 minutes XD
The Killing of a Sacred Deer was filmed here in Cincinnati. So seeing this film made me smile from ear to ear as I recognized all the landmarks.
Very good recommendations, Emma! So glad you included The Vanishing...one of my favourite Thrillers! I´ll add some more recommendations...Contagion might be the most depressing and sad movie right now. Amer is quite stunning visually. Kill List and The Conspiracy are two very good Cult Horrors. And two very disturbing Aussie Horrors are Night of Fear and To make a Killing.
im trying to avoid pandemic films at the moment. I wasn't a big fan of Kill List :(
I would recommend Vuelven (a.k.a. Tigers Are Not Afraid). It's available on Shudder as an exclusive. If you're into Guillermo Del Toro films, you may like this one. It's directed by Issa López as her first horror film; she is mostly known for writing and directing romantic comedies (Fun Fact: Stephen King, Neil Gaiman and Guillermo Del Toro have stated that they've enjoyed this film). Vuelven has a mixture of fantasy, crime, drama and horror. The score is very well done, the acting feels extremely realistic (especially since a majority of the leads are children), it's beautifully shot, even during the nighttime, and the effects were pretty good. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did, I've watched it 3 times (and also cried said 3 times).
There's a couple of Aussie horror movies that I need help in identifying. I saw them all a long time ago, but don't know what they're called. One was a Mad Max kids thing, but set inside a drive-in theatre. The other was a slasher type film where some guys break into a shopping centre at might, but a deranged cop/security guard or something follows them in and stats hunting them.
There's also a film I saw in the 90's or early 2000's called "Body Melt" that has Harold from neighbours that is definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of 90's Peter Jackson films.
Really loved this list! Gave me some great titles to watch! Thanks, Emma! Your channel really is outstanding!
"Warlock Moon" 1975. Underrated and rare weird engaging trip
I really liked In The House Of The Devil and I feel like no one ever talks about it.
Yes!!! You're Next and The Descent!
House of the Devil is an 80's horror fan's dream. It's picked up a bit of traction lately, but can still be classified as overlooked. Great film!
House of the Devil is amazing,,, apart from the Lena Dunham phone call! haha!
It's good..... Chasing the devil, is another good recommendation....
Love that movie, and same goes for starry eyes really good movie that most people have not heard about
I love that movie and I wish Jocelyn Donahue was in more horror movies
Glad to see Possum getting some love. The acting/visuals are absolutely phenomenal.
I would recommend the home invasion movie Trespass (2011). It stars Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman. Cage plays a jewelry dealer, and has to deal with masked criminals that break into his isolated mansion.
Another one is called The Perfect Host. That is about a man on the run from the law. He then poses as a friend of a friend of a man, after going through this man's mailbox. Once he is in the house, things get much crazier. I described this movie the best I could without spoiling. I'd recommend it, if you haven't already seen it. It is a great black comedy, imo. It stars David Hyde Pierce and Clayne Crawford.
Awesome list of movies you have there. Thank you for another awesome video. I appreciate all the hard work that you do for us 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
I dont think ive seen Trespass!
Oh man, Possum is beyond unsettling. There was one scene that made both myself & my boyfriend scream out loud 😖
Fun fact: it’s written & directed by Matthew Holness, who also created/starred in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, which is definitely also worth watching! (British horror comedy show)
props on Love WItch. And the heroine in You're Next reminds me of Betty Gilpin's lead in The Hunt, in that she's got a background they didn't exactly backcheck lol. Great list!
haha! so true!
Bad Boy Bubby.. that is definitely one of the strangest movies ever. There's a certain thing about some Australian movies, as if the perspective is truly from the other side of the planet. Like that other movie where a doctor gets stranded in some isolated place and they all just get drunk and kill kangaroos. Very strange but mesmerizing stuff
it's more of a thriller and slow burn but for stalker movies i WOULD definitely recommend caché (Hidden in english) (2005). it's a kind of found footage film about a wealthy parisian couple that gets stalked by a person that keeps recording them/their house. it's found footage in that the entire movie is just shots of said stalker movies. i haven't rewatched in a long time, but i know it's so good there's dissertations written about this, so.
Absolutely do another! Great picks and with things as they these days, it's your time to shine!
Thanks!
The ending of Summer of 84 stayed with me for almost 2 weeks. It is a brilliant mkvie and sadly underrated. Wish more people saw this rather than The Nun which is worse than a pile of dog crap!!!
Great list! I'd love to see if there are any good disturbing docs out there I haven't seen!
Thanks Meghan, I have a video of disturbing docs ! not sure if you have seen it?
Great reccomendations. Have to check out more of the Australian movies, i always go back to the classics like wolf creek and the loved ones.
Also some love for Dutch thrillers, imo the Vanishing is the best Dutch thriller ever made.
Another good thriller from the Netherlands is Daylight from 2013.
And if you want extremly cookie horror check out The Johnsons (1992).
As for an intense thriller i would like to reccommend everyone the Danish movie The Guilty from 2018, i forgot everything around me for an hour and a half.
These videos are always welcome, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the recommendation! sounds thrilling!
I: "I need some feel-good movie during the quarantine"
Emma: "Watch Inside and Funny Games"
Was just watching one of your older videos! "Most Disturbing Movies Part 2" and then you dropped this! Yes! This is amazing thanks for these recommendations!!!!!! You're a fucking champ
also prisoners is one of the most intense films i've ever seen wow
wooo! thanks for supporting me
Yassss Repo: The Genetic Opera! Will always love that one :D
I really really like your descriptions, you give an idea of what's the movie is about without giving away too much.
Thank you for this Emma. Great recommendations. Please be safe out there. Peace, Rob
Thanks Rob ! You too!
Hi Emma , I watched " Compliance " again and found it fascinating. The " Milgrams 37 " study of how we do what were told , blindly.
yikes! scary stuff! I need to look into that study!
MOM Mothers of Monsters (on Amazon Prime here in the states). I know you enjoy found footage, this is a twist on that, more of a "all on screens" version/subgenre. Very simple, tense, and effective. A mom tries to secretly record her 16 year old, worried that he might be a budding psychopath. The two leads are both excellent for this low-budget thriller. Might be quite triggering for some and disturbing in a "this isn't probably far from the truth" sort of way. Interested to hear you take.
Yesss, you are really getting me through this chaotic and unreal time. Much love 🖤
it's so cool that your channel exists.
I usually only watch Stuckman and you
Great overview!
I've seen maybe less than half of these movies, which means there's a ready list of your excellent suggestions for me to enjoy - thank you!
P.S. Have you tackled 'The Exorcist III' yet? (...or 'Border'?...I'm being annoying about that one.)
I'm sooooo glad you mentioned Boys in the Trees. That is one of my favorite films and I can never get anyone to watch it!
Not so much horror as drama, but Mean Creek is a devastatingly sad and horrifying film, even if it's not straight horror
Thanks Emma! Great list! 2 Australian horrors I would add (both by the same Australian director) are "Wolf Creek" (psycho serial killer in the Outback), and Rogue (killer crocodile). Stay safe! =)
I don’t know what it is about Super Dark Times but I love that movie. I think about it often and consider it one of the best movies I’ve seen in awhile.
Funny Games is one of my fave movies! I love both the original and the remake even though the original is my fave for some reason. Also Inside is one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. I love it so much.
The descent is one of my favorite movies of all time, I’ve watched it so many times. And you’re next is another favorite! I love your recommendations ❤️
Thankyou for showing some love to Sound Of My Voice! Such an underrated movie!!
yass :D
So many of these are underrated ! The vanishing 1998 is the best ! Prisoners is truly Underrated !!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@@spookyastronauts Thank you !
Badarse video! Keep them coming!
The Japanese House from 1977, _is_ climbing up the walls crazy.
Also climbing on the ceiling, floor and into the piano as well. 🤪
The Sound of My Voice was one of two films that Brit Marling co-wrote and starred in that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in the same year. The second one being Another Earth which is a sci-fi drama. I believe this is the only time that a creative team had two films in the festival simultaneously.
niceeee
Sound of My Voice was written by the same writer as The OA
The Girl Next Door is no joke and Inside is definitely gorely. Excellent recommendation Emma.
Thanks Miser! always appreciate your support.
Requiem for a Dream is my #2 favorite film of all time behind Schindlers List.
Good taste!
Thanks for posting Emma I'm just going through videos sometimes finding hard to write comments but appreciating the videos
Oh my gosh Repo! got a mention! I LOVE it! I met the guy who wrote it last year (he plays Graverobber) and his song writing sidekick, it's my fave film! Such a cult classic 🖤🤘🏻
Omg haha!
Just did The vanishing and omg it was a sooo good! I loved it
Thanks for the "summer of 84"I really enjoy the film!!😀
About spoorloos aka the vanishing (1988), this movie is based on a dutch book called the golden egg. I read it when i was a teenager, long before i knew the movie existed, and it stuck with me. If there exists an english translation, i'd really recommend it!
Thanks for the recommendation!
A good recommendation for both weird & visually pleasing would be IN FABRIC. Also the first movie that comes to my mind for visually pleasing films is the OG SUSPIRIA.
i LOVE Repo! The Genetic Opera. If you haven't yet, definitely check out The Devil's Carnival and the sequel Alleluia!
Yep! I saw devils carnival on the weekend :/ wasn’t a fan
@@spookyastronauts never heard of that film😊
Great choices Emma thank you for doing this. Unfortunately all but 1 I have watched. Lmao stay safe my friend
Has taken me awhile to think of one but "the dark" by Sean Bean I absolutely love this horror!
I love Nocturnal Animals and the Shallows
And the Descent is one of my fav films ever!
Great recommendations, Emma! Many interesting films I hadn't heard of before. Thanks!
Earthquake Bird (2019)....this was great !!.....more of a thriller !!!
Thanks Emma, great list. I've actually seen quite a few of these. But there were still a couple I probably need to check out. Your such a Bahdahss!
Thank you!!!
Thanks for the recommendations! We're always on the lookout for new movies (especially horror!) so this has given us some great movie homework to get done over the lockdown! :D
I literally watch Prisoners last night. Was a such a good movie
Ima gon back u up on that martha marcy may marlene recomendation it's such an amazing, disturbing and eerie movie. it's definitely not for everyone but i personally loved it so much and consider it one of my favorite movies of all time
I always find it humorous when you refer to certain films (in this case "Single White Female") as a classic. You see, I remember when I first saw SWF in theaters in 1993. I had just landed my first full-time job and after a month, I was still a nervous wreck learning the job. Movies were my tension breakers back then, but somehow SWF was a poor relaxation choice.🙄
hahaha! It is a classic though!
ahh i watched sound of my voice years ago but i forgot the title and now thanks to this video i can finally watch it again!
Can anyone in Australia tell me where to stream the Love Witch? Been wanting to watch that one for ages
I forgot about Single White Female I haven't seen that movie in forever. I love Jennifer Jason Leigh one of my favorite actresses.
For depression and disturbing I’d recommend The men behind the sun., Not really horror or thriller but the gore factor and the fact that it was all real events makes it disturbing and very depressing to watch
It’s also very easy to watch it free on RUclips last time I saw it
I loved the shallows! The Descent is still one of my fave horror movies of all time
These recommendations are gold. Thanks so much Emma!
Thanks for the support!
I have never seen anyone mention Repo! I love it so much!
Soooo good! and bad haha!
Still giggling, Repo: Genetic Opera....it's like Rocky Horror Show's very, very distant cousin.
Female-led horror thriller: The Guest - Starring Maika Monroe and Dan Stevens. Really good psychological thriller let down by an action-based ending.
I think I discovered a good one. I was looking to see what the dir. Of the collector did after that movie and most of it was remakes and sequels to franchises that were already around. Then I see "The Neighbor" from 2016. It's pretty good all around has that creepy collector vibe to it too.
Have to admit, I hated Killing of a Sacred Deer. BUT I loved Nightcrawler and especially Nocturnal animals! 2 amazing films!
A lesser known stalker/thriller I'd like to recommend is called Under Pressure aka Bad Day On The Block. That is about a family being harassed by their next door neighbor. Their neighbor is a well respected firefighter, so, nobody believes them. That's all I'll say without spoiling. This movie stars Charlie Sheen and Mare Whittingham.
Oh wow thanks! that sounds really interesting!
Omg the shoutout to sound of my voice. Was not expecting that 😍
I watched The Killing of a Sacred Deer last night and it was such a weird movie, so unique! Definitely looking forward to more videos like this
glad you enjoyed it!
I loved The Endless and Resolution. Great picks! Renegade is a pretty weird film I would recommend!
Thanks Ron!
@@spookyastronauts It's from 2004 AKA Blueberry. It's also visually stunning and leaves an impression! ruclips.net/video/9cgfbPzmAcY/видео.html
Thank you, Emma for the suggestions and the entertainment in these tough times!
Just wanna add to your list of cult movies- The Sacrament has got to be my favorite in the sub genre. It’s about the Jonestown massacre.
Jesus Christ I can't believe you mentioned Bad Boy Bubby ... lmao....Haven't thought about that one in many years. I blacked that one out of my mind completely. Thanks for the reminder... :/ lol
Some great movies movies Emma which I must watch again. There is also a few i haven't seen yet too.
